Welcome to the Mission-Minded Newsletter! Max here. I know you didn't go into ministry to get lost in accounting spreadsheets, that's why I'm here, growing Mission-Minded Bookkeeping and sharing free insight into all things accounting. Let's get started.

Stewardship Notes: What is TechSoup?

If you have never heard these two words before, then buckle up, because they are about to save your nonprofit, church, or charity tons of money: TechSoup.

TechSoup is a nonprofit that exists to provide technology resources to other nonprofits at huge discounts. It connects eligible organizations with discounted and donated technology from well-known companies, including Microsoft, Adobe, AWS and Intuit, the maker of QuickBooks, and more.

But since this is an accounting newsletter, let's focus on how your organization can secure these savings on your accounting software!

If you have QuickBooks Online, then you know how incredibly expensive this software can be, especially if your accounting isn't very complex. It's my preferred software, but I feel this pain point. That's why I'm always preaching on the rooftops to my clients about TechSoup.

QuickBooks Online through Intuit vs. TechSoup

Let's do a quick price comparison of having QuickBooks Online through Intuit vs. TechSoup.

QuickBooks OnlineIntuitTechSoupSavings
Plus subscription$140/month$80/year$1,600/year
Advanced subscription$340/month$170/year$3,910/year

Prices as listed by Intuit (regular monthly price, before any promotion) and TechSoup (one-year subscription admin fee) in October 2026. TechSoup's QuickBooks Online offer is for eligible nonprofits, and each organization can receive one donated subscription; check TechSoup's current terms for your organization.

Did you see that?? You can get accounting software for under $200 for the entire year!

Behind the Books

This is the part of the newsletter where you get to know me, Max, a little bit better. I wanted to take a second to tell y'all the lore of where this idea for Mission-Minded Bookkeeping came from.

The genesis for the idea of possibly moving out of my 9-5 job that I had been at for several years started while I was on a family vacation earlier this year. We (Caitlin, me, and our two kids under 3) were watching the sunset on the beach while eating tacos, and the beauty of what I was seeing and what God had given me in my family hit me in my soul. Something in my DNA changed that day and I knew that God was starting to move my heart to do something different.

When I returned from vacation, and after having divinely appointed conversations at work, I knew what direction God was pointing me in: start your own business.

Through the next six months, God was working in ways that the world can't comprehend. Connections that only he could create, clients that only he could bring to me, and convictions that only he can bring in my heart. When you let God lead the way, then only the best can come from it. Truly, the best place to be is in His will.

Mission-Minded Bookkeeping was created because I want to serve organizations that I believe in, that I want to help Stay On Mission. It was created because I want to use my skills that God has given me to serve the Kingdom. It was created because I have more to give, and that was only going to be possible by stepping out into this leap of faith.
